Offline

Support for working without internet by caching key data and actions on the mobile device.

Overview

Mobile offline allows users without an internet connection to continue working from their mobile device. This is an optional, opt-in feature that requires activation. For details, see Request Offline Mode.

Mobile offline works by creating a cache of records on the mobile device that a user views and updates while offline. This cache is a limited set of data based on the applications the user can access as defined by the administrator. The user must download this cache before they enter an area with limited or no internet connection to use mobile offline.

When the user is offline, the mobile app records these changes to an outbox queue. When the user returns to an area with connectivity, they can synchronize their device with the instance. The cached changes in the outbox are updated to the instance.

Administrators control the data and actions that are made available in offline. Downloading large amounts of offline cache data can be time consuming and is not the purpose of mobile offline. When configuring mobile offline, consider what information and actions a user needs while offline. For example, limit the download of task records to only those tasks assigned to the user that are due for the current week. For actions in offline, administrators can utilize the action steps feature to create user actions which can be performed both online and offline. For example, since scripted actions are not supported offline, admins can create a declarative action that can be run while offline for the same user action.

  • For the Now Mobile app, offline is supported starting in Utah release when using 17.0.0 version or later of our mobile app. Only manual download of offline cache is supported.
  • For the Agent mobile app, offline is supported on all active family releases for all versions of the mobile app. All modes of offline cache download are supported – manual, scheduled and incremental.

Starting with the Washington release, mobile offline is supported on all Mobile app types (Agent, Requestor or Custom). All app types support the same offline capabilities.
