What is Horizon?

Horizon is the design system for ServiceNow, built to empower, accelerate, and inspire creators across the platform. It provides UI components, patterns, styles, and guidelines for each of our primary app frameworks, all purpose-built to solve for common ServiceNow use cases.

Horizon is built on a foundation of principles, guidelines, and resources that support experiences across the platform.

  • Guidelines inform every experience built on the platform, from our approach to accessibility and AI, to our content design.
  • Resources get you moving, including Figma libraries, learning programs, and communities to connect with other ServiceNow creators.
  • App frameworks are the environments we use to build experiences on ServiceNow. Each app framework contains design guidance and pre-built, reusable assets like components and patterns, tailored for specific users and use cases.

Who is it for?

Horizon is used both internally at ServiceNow and by partners and individual creators working to define experiences on the ServiceNow platform.

Creators

Horizon's resources reduce the time and effort needed for ServiceNow users to create elegant and powerful experiences for the people who use what they build. Individual creators often bring skills in design, engineering, and product ownership, and Horizon provides thoughtfully curated tools and guidance for each of those areas of focus. Creators outside ServiceNow can also interact with one another through the UX Special Interest Group, use Horizon Figma libraries, and take advantage of Learning programs provided by ServiceNow.

Partners

Partners can leverage Horizon, especially in tandem with UI creation tools such as UI Builder, to create sub-systems of well-designed components and patterns. Their designs help to fully satisfy the needs of customers using the ServiceNow platform.

Designers

Designers at ServiceNow are the foremost advocates for users, and Horizon provides them with a centralized repository of vetted, user-tested design patterns and guidelines for virtually every type of interaction and challenge. These represent our best practices for ensuring high-quality experiences for customers and partners alike.

Developers

Developers at ServiceNow write the code to realize world-class experiences. Horizon provides them with pre-built, performant, accessible, and flexible components, as well as code examples and documentation demonstrating the effective ways to leverage them in real user interfaces.
