The News feed widget displays a collection of articles and events. Its primary purpose is to keep users informed about the latest updates, company news, events, or relevant information within the portal. This widget offers a dynamic way to present content. The widget always pulls content from Content Publishing for content types that are news articles or company events. Content can also be targeted at specific users based on roles, location, and other data, ensuring that information is both relevant and personalized.

When to use

Use this widget where users need immediate access to current organizational information. This widget works best for regular, time-sensitive updates like announcements, policy changes, or updates that affect users' daily work.

When not to use

Avoid using this widget for static content, detailed documentation, or complex procedural information. Don't use it when you lack regular content updates, as stale feeds create a poor user experience.

Usage

Because the News feed widget is highly effective for keeping users informed and engaged with the latest information relevant to their roles or interests, it’s important to keep in mind the following:

  • Don’t use multiple News feed instances: Doing this can fragment user attention and dilute important messages.
  • Limit the number of visible items: Prevent cognitive overload by restricting the number of articles displayed (typically 5-10 items) to ensure users can quickly scan and digest the most important information.
  • Ensure content headlines are descriptive and actionable: Craft headlines that are concise and directly communicate the main point of the news, encouraging users to click and learn more.
  • Establish a consistent content publishing schedule: Publish news on a regular basis to maintain user engagement and build an expectation of fresh, relevant content. Also consider the audiences an article is targeted to
  • Implement clear content governance: Ensure all published messages are high-quality, relevant, and consistent with organizational messaging by establishing a clear review and approval process.

Examples

  • Employee Center homepage: Displaying HR announcements, company events, and policy updates
  • Manager dashboard: Featuring leadership communications, performance updates, and strategic initiatives
  • Department-specific portals: Highlighting team-specific news, project updates, and relevant training opportunities
